Infant Baptism is a Sacrament of Initiation that welcomes a child into our faith community of Catholic Christian believers. It is the celebration that begins the faith life of the child in and with Christ. Because the child is unable to express faith, the Church invites the parents and godparents into a preparation process prior to the Baptism Celebration. Through prayer, reflection, scripture, and faith sharing, parents and godparents are guided and supported in their responsibilities as faith witnesses for the child.

Baptism Preparation Information
It is highly recommended that parents attend preparation sessions during pregnancy. While preparing for your child’s birth, it is important to begin preparing for your child’s Christian formation as well.

Holy Trinity requires that parents attend a baptism preparation session prior to baptizing their child.  Godparents are also encouraged to attend.  This may be taken at Holy Trinity, or at another Catholic parish.  For questions regarding Holy Trinity's baptism requirements, contact Courtney Mattison, 202.903.2806

Baptismal Preparation sessions taken at Holy Trinity will meet the preparation requirements of parents and godparents for most parishes.  Please check the requirements of the church where you will be celebrating the baptism, and indicate on the registration form that you will need a completion letter.

Preparation sessions are held once a month on either Saturday mornings, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, or Monday evenings, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m in McKenna Hall.

The Sacrament of Baptism at Holy Trinity
Communal Baptism Celebrations take place three times each month, either at one of the Masses, at 2:45pm on a Sunday in the main Church, or at 3:00pm on a Saturday in the St. Ignatius Chapel.  For more information on the Sacrament of Baptism at Holy Trinity, click here.
