Winter 2017 Faith Formation Opportunities
Screenagers (A documentary on helping kids achieve “digital balance”)
January 8 10:10 – 11:45 a.m. Trinity Hall
January 9 7 – 8:30 p.m. Trinity Hall
We’re partnering with Holy Trinity School to present a free screening of the documentary, Screenagers. Looking into the corners of family life to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction, the film reveals surprising insights from authors, psychologists and brain scientists about how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
Afterward, there will be a Q&A. In order to create a family dialogue about this topic, we encourage you to bring your children (ages 10+).
Looking for more information to help you and your children navigate digital boundaries? The Screenagers website has a list of good resources.
As we celebrate the International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25, join parishioner and retired Georgetown theology professor Tony Tambasco for An Update on Ecumenical Relations. The format will be more like a “TED-style” Talk, with an abbreviated lecture format that allows more time for conversational discussion and follow-up. Grab your coffee in McKenna Hall and stay for this engaging, interactive session.
January 22 Pilgrimage: My Search for the Real Pope Francis
10:10 – 11:15 a.m. Trinity Hall
Like most of us, Mark Shriver, nephew of President John F. Kennedy and New York Times bestselling author of A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver was astonished to see that our new pope paid his own hotel bill, eschewed limos and made his home in a suite of austere rooms in a Vatican guesthouse. His humility and messages resonated within Shriver, who decided to learn more.
In his recently published book, Pilgrimage: My Search for the Real Pope Francis, Shriver retraces Francis’ personal journey, revealing the origins of his open, unpretentious style, and explaining how it revitalized Shriver’s own faith and renewed his commitment to the Church.
Come and hear what he learned when he traveled to the pope’s native Argentina to meet with the people who knew him as a child, as a young Jesuit priest and as a reforming bishop. He’ll explain how we can take Pope Francis’ messages to heart as we make faith, hope, love, and mercy a part of our lives.
Bring your own book to be signed. Copies will also be available for purchase on site.
