Concerts At Holy Trinity: Chamber Music – Piano Quartets of Johannes Brahms & Louise Heritte-Viardot

Saturday, November 21 | 7:30 PM (doors 7:00 PM), Chapel
Please join us for the next concert in Holy Trinity’s chamber music series in the beautiful Saint Ignatius chapel, on Saturday November 21st at 7:30pm will include piano quartets by Johannes Brahms and Louise Heritte-Viardot, performed by violinist and Holy Trinity parishioner Claire Allen, violist Lillian Green, cellist Zachary Whitaker, and pianist Faith Zúñiga. This concert will be the next in our series featuring the extraordinary musical talent within our own parish community.
Experience these two piano quartets from the Romantic era, by Louise Heritte-Viardot (1841-1918) and Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). Both composers were extremely active and well-connected in the music world in their time, and both of their compositions reflect the expressive melodies and lush harmonies that listeners expect from Romantic music. The four movements of Heritte-Viardot’s Spanishes Quartett, Op. 11 are modeled after Spanish dances, and reflect the composer’s familial Spanish roots, though she herself was French. German composer Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 1, Op. 25 takes the listener on a journey that culminates in one of the composer’s most engaging and well-known movements, the “Rondo alla Zingarese,” a movement with a repeating theme in the Hungarian style which was incredibly popular at this time.
This program is brought to you by violinist and HT parishioner Claire Allen, violist Lillian Green, cellist Zachary Whitaker, and pianist Faith Zúñiga. The performers have degrees from schools including the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, Shenandoah Conservatory, and George Mason University. They all perform, teach, and live in northern Virginia.
The concert will not be ticketed, but generous free-will donations are welcomed to both support the performers and to offset the continuing operations of our concert series. An informal reception will follow this concert. Please email Matthew Ogden with any questions: [email protected]
