Faith Formation/Religious Education

** Inclement Weather - Sunday Morning Faith Formation programs will follow Arlington County Public Schools for closings.  Please also check emails and text messages Saturday evening and early Sunday for updates. **

Through Faith Formation at Holy Trinity, we seek to assist parishioners in building an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and developing a strong Christian community here at Holy Trinity and with the Mystical Body of Christ.  Faith formation deepens our understanding of our core beliefs as Catholics, the liturgy and the sacraments, scripture, prayer, and how we are to live as disciples of Jesus. Drawing on Ignatian spirituality and tradition, we hope to provide a foundation for a life-long education of the whole person and to encourage parishioners to actively live out their faith through loving service to others especially the most vulnerable and marginalized.

The following programs are open for the 2023-2024 year.

Sunday Morning Faith Formation Classes
Faith formation for children in grades PreK-8 will be held in person from September 2023 – May 2024.  Classes meet from 10:10 am – 11:10 am during the school year.  Holy Trinity follows the curriculum that has been approved by the Archdiocese of Washington and uses the Finding God series from Loyola Press.

At-Home Faith Formation
At Home Faith Formation allows parents the opportunity to provide for their children’s faith formation at home.  Children will receive copies of the Finding God textbooks, and parents will receive additional resources to support their teaching of the faith.  Holy Trinity’s faith formation office will provide curriculum guidelines and additional support throughout the year.

Shepherd’s Flock
Shepherd’s Flock is Holy Trinity’s faith formation program for children and teens with special needs.  Using materials from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Loyola Press’s adaptive series, catechists tailor lessons to meet the needs of those enrolled both to grow in their relationship with God and also to prepare for the sacraments.

Youth Ministry
Holy Trinity’s high school youth ministry program meets at various times throughout each month, including Sunday mornings from 10:15am-11:15am, Saturday or Sunday evening events, and virtual groups on weeknights.  Through prayer, discussion, game days, and other activities, high school youth grow in their relationship with Jesus, build friendships with one another, and discern how to use their gifts to become men and women for others.

RCIAafc (for children of catechetical age, 7 yrs or older and teens who have not been baptized)
The Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for children (and teens) offers a place of conversation, formation, and discernment about the Catholic faith for young people who have not been baptized in any Christian faith tradition.  Those who desire to become Catholic will celebrate Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. Before enrolling in RCIAafc, please contact the Faith Formation Office, (202) 903-2807.
