We know that stepping into ministry often comes with questions, and we are here to accompany and support you as you prayerfully discern whether this role is right for you.

What's Involved in Being a Catechist?

Catechists serve alongside a co-catechist to plan and lead weekly sessions for children and families. No prior teaching experience is necessary—only a willingness to share your faith, accompany young people, and continue growing spiritually yourself.

Throughout the year, catechists receive:

  • Weekly lesson guides and curriculum support
  • Printed and digital teaching resources
  • Access to Loyola Press textbooks and online materials
  • Ongoing mentorship and formation opportunities
  • Support from Faith Formation staff and fellow catechists

Child Safety & Safe Environment Requirements

Holy Trinity and the Archdiocese of Washington are deeply committed to providing a safe environment for all children and families. All catechists and volunteers who work with minors are required to complete Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements, including:

  • Mandatory child protection training
  • Background checks and fingerprinting
  • Virtus compliance requirements
