50 Plus Group

Welcome to the Holy Trinity 50 Plus Group, AKA: HT 50+

The Holy Trinity 50 Plus Group has an exciting schedule of activities organized for parishioners who are 50 or over, married or single, working or retired.  We have a large, active, and fun group of folks who participate and hope you will join us.  Please check this page for updates, or better yet, if you would like to get on the email list to receive information about activities/service/outings and to take part in monthly events, contact Linda Wiessler-Hughes on michaelinda88@hotmail.com.  (Please include this email on your contact list to ensure the notifications don't end up in your spam folder.) Linda welcomes any and all suggestions for additional events--especially if you are willing to coordinate.

Fall 2019 50+ Schedule

The older adult education program is a pastoral education initiative for a rapidly growing cohort of the Holy Trinity parish community. This seminar series is designed to bring information, strategies and resources to a new level of awareness and assist with planning for grace-filled and healthy futures.

The seminars will be held on Tuesday, October 8 and Thursday November 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the home of Jim and Marcia Thessin. Munchies, dessert and a variety of beverages will be served. Some carpooling options will be available. RSVP for directions and questions to Kathy Kirchner at kathy@accessiblehomesolutions.com.

End of Life Decisions: Tuesday, October 8th: From Advance Medical Directives to care coordination and many concerns and issues in-between, there are many important end-of-life decisions that older adults and their family members need to make with grace, care and prayer. Long-time HT Parishioner and Hospital Chaplain, Dr. Linda Arnold will present information, provide resources and facilitate a guided discussion about areas of physical, emotional and spiritual concern in the last years, months and weeks of life.

Having the Hard “Talks” – Between Aging Parents and Adult Children: Thursday, November 7, 2019: For aging adults and their adult children, it can feel awkward to engage in conversations about health and safety, financial resources and housing. Parents may want things done in ways that cause concern to the kids, and siblings may disagree. Resistance, timing and follow-up are important considerations in planning “the talks”. Aging Life Care™ Manager and owner of Caring Considerations, Heidi Garvis will offer information and insights and facilitate a guided discussion about handling these tough talks caringly and effectively.

Parish Getaway Weekend (AKA Camp Trinity), September 20-22

The annual Parish Getaway Weekend, held on the weekend of September 20-22, is popular with many 50+ regulars. Also known as Camp Trinity, this is neither camping nor a retreat. It’s a weekend in which parishioners relax, play and pray together in a beautiful setting. The weekend offers a little something for everyone: Bingo, relaxing on wide porches or by the lake, a Saturday adult program and discussion led by Tony Tambasco, adult happy hours, prayer liturgies each day, hayrides, woodland trails, etc. Father Ben Hawley will be there with us the whole weekend.

Sleeping accommodations are quaint, private rooms with private baths in Maryland House, a building on the National Register of Historic Places or in cottages. You will be served six hearty meals. The rate for the entire weekend is $200 per person double occupancy, $260 single occupancy. Saturday-only day rate is $50. Consider making it a multi-generational family affair. Children age 0-3 are $15; kids age 4 through 8th grade are $78. (There are many activities for kids). The parish offers a financial assistance to any parishioner for whom cost is a hurdle to participating in the weekend. Deadline to register is September 8th. Contact Sarah.Babson@verizon.net for more information.
